It’s really good to see Botswana taking the lead in this area. The Southern African region has significant amounts of materials and minerals important for the production of battery electric vehicles. Neighboring South Africa has manganese, Zimbabwe has lithium, nickel and graphite, Zambia has copper, Mozambique has graphite and already has a supply deal that will supply graphite to Tesla. An electric vehicle manufacturing hub in Southern Africa could unlock much-needed beneficial opportunities for all of these resources.
