Airtel Seychelles invites local and international businesses to use its state-of-the-art data storage facility recently opened at Perseverance.
The new data center follows the company’s mission of delivering technologies and services admired around the world to give Africa a simple and reliable way to connect to the world. The level three data center was built with the latest technology.
“To be part of the data value chain that includes processing, analysis, storage, security and intellectual property, we need some connectivity and a number of data centers to be present in the country. So this project is fascinating, not only because it is a data storage center, but also because it innovates in terms of technological development ”, declared Amadou Dina, general manager of the company. .
Dina said the data center was also built to withstand the worst tragedies such as fires, earthquakes, power outages, among others.
“As we store data from different companies, we need to make sure it is safe from any eventuality. That’s why we’ve invested in redundancies for all of our equipment, to ensure that the data center is always running, no matter what. outside, ”he added.
The data center consists of two power systems, two independently operating transformers and two separate electrical panels and two generators of 500KV each, as well as two separate battery rooms. This is to ensure that in the event of a failure of one power system, the second can be used.
In the event that the island nation’s Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) experiences a major power outage across the country, one of the two generators will be able to provide electricity for more than three days. After that, the second generator will start and it can alternate until the power is restored. In the event of generator failure, the batteries will be used.
The Perseverance building, an artificial island, also has a complex cooling system, which ensures that every room, especially the rooms hosting the data servers, is kept at an optimum temperature for the best performance.
“The safety and efficiency of data center operations is important to us and it is here, in this room, that a group of workers monitor everything that happens in the data center, as well as all others. Airtel operations, such as Internet traffic and networks. , said Dina.
He added that Airtel Seychelles can help businesses with their disaster recovery planning.
“Businesses can count on our 24/7 network operations center for data center monitoring, notification and resolution and WAN services. By co-locating local and international customer equipment within the data center, Airtel provides the ability to reduce connectivity costs while increasing scalability and reliability, ”said Dina.
